Parents of Addicts Sharing Time is a support/advocacy group.  We laugh, we cry, and we share our stories.  We listen, we speak and we have hope.  We hope that one day we are able to make a difference in the community of Venice, the county of Sarasota, the state of Florida, the country of the United States and ultimately the world.

We will no longer remain anonymous as parents of addicts.  We are coming forward and speaking out about the pain that is created in families where addiction is present.  We are educating ourselves about the genetically pre-disposed chronic brain disease of addiction.

Addiction is not an individual disease, but rather a family disease.  Everyone is affected.  There is a tremendous amount of shame and guilt that accompanies addiction.  Families are crippled when a loved one is afflicted with this horrible disease.

Together we can make a difference.  As one person opens up and shares their pain, that pain has less power over them and they are able to begin the healing process.  Together, we will educate society to understand that addiction is a disease and the stigma that goes with it will be lessened.

PAST meets the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at Jacaranda Library, 4143 Woodmere Park Blvd, Venice, Florida in the Conference Room at 7pm.

If you are the parent of an addict or know someone who is, please let them know that they are not alone and that there are others who understand their pain.
